BEST PRINTER A+A+A+ April 17, 2010 Bwana (Humboldt County, CA. USA) I have only had this printer for awhile now, and have only printed 43 8x10s so far. But, I must say, these prints are the finest I've ever seen from a printer. They are every bit as good as prints made at professional labs on photo paper in the past.
I am very happy with this machine, and it's hard for me to believe they can sell it for so little. I am anxious to see just how well it does on 11x14 prints. I expect the best, and I bet I will not be disappointed.
The ONLY drawback, and it's a minor one, is the cost of the ink. It has always been my contention that inks are highly overpriced, and these are no exception. But, compared to other printers, the inks are not that expensive it would seem.
If this printer continues to perform like this through the years, I will become, and remain, a loyal Epson Printer fan.
But. It. Now. April 19, 2010 J. Sciabica PROS:
Awesome quality prints. STRAIGHT FEED-THROUGH! (no wrapping around from the bottom. Prints ALL sizes from a business card to 13x19 border-less in perfect quality. Good driver support (unlike my r1800).
Bang for your buck is off the charts.
CONS:
The bottom tray for catching the printout is a bit cheap and annoying, but for $199 I'm not complaining.
REVIEW:
I have used dozens, if not hundreds of printers in my long computer carrier. Many of those were ink based printers going all the way back to my HP DeskJet 550 (one of the first ink based printers ever), and including the high end/expensive r1800. THIS IS MY FAVORITE PRINTER EVER. I shoot a digital SLR, and I love printing my photos on the Photo 1400.
Constant compliments! Great printer! April 22, 2010 puglover (Georgia) Excellent printer. I've made several 13 x 19 prints that were just as clear as could be. I've had several photo enthusiasts ask me exactly which model printer I have and they are shocked to learn that a printer at this price is such high quality. I would recommend this printer to anyone!
Excellent printer at an excellent price May 28, 2010 Joshua Trosclair Printer was shipped and arrived within two days. Plugged it in and ran like a champ.
Dream machine for wide format on a budget... May 29, 2010 Paul R. Hartung (Milwaukie, OR United States) Unless you need the gloss enhancement of the 1900, this printer will exceed the price-to-performance expectations of discerning image makers. Combined with a CIS and good ink/paper (plus maybe a good printing software like Qimage), the 1400 will have you laughing all the way to the bank. This model is ideally suited for quality and economy, which is why there's plethora information available on how to convert these to continuous ink supplied versions on the web.
If you're in the market, don't hesitate because Epson will soon stop making them as they try to foil the aftermarket work-arounds that prevent them from bilking the general public with their ink prices. It's nice to buck the system and make great prints at a fraction of the cost. Jump in...
