Great printer--good price September 13, 2008 scdesign (Taos, NM) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great printer for someone who needs a large format printer. I am a graphic designer and I use it to proof 11x17 newsletters. My last stylus photo printer lasted 10 years. This is an improvement because there are 6 ink cartridges instead of 2. My only complaint is that ink is so expensive, but all ink jet printers have that problem. So I still recommend it highly.
Excellent printer for photos and everyday use October 21, 2008 midnight821 (Kentucky) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned several Epson printers in the past and this product lives up to my expectations. I have also owned Canon, Lexmark, and HP printers. Plus I work in the computing industry, so I have used various printers. At home, I typically use my printer for general purpose items, but most importantly: photos. If you are looking for a great photo printer, you have found it.
The Stylus 1400 is just a notch below some of their professional lines. In fact, this printer will deliver professional quality prints. I have owned an Epson R1800 Stylus, Photo Printer and was extremely pleased with it. This printer is just about on par with that one with some upgrades.
The installation was a snap and the Epson software is among the better printing software packages out there. It is true that it will ask you to replace cartridges before they are empty, but I just keep running them until they are out. The software doesn't bother you too much and has several features and options to set depending on your paper and the quality you wish to produce. I do recommend using quality photo paper (Epson, Kodak, etc). You will see a difference.
The speed is on par with other models. It's not slow by any means. You will be impressed by the prints, as they have very good saturation. The size of the printer can be daunting for some, but that's the price you pay for the ability to print larger photo sizes. You will not regret this purchase and you will enjoy this printer much more than going to a local print shop or ordering them online. Highly recommended!
Absolutly LUV my printer! November 4, 2008 Jo A. Taylor (South Carolina) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had my 1400 for almost 1 month and I am thrilled with it. My old printer was a Stylus 1280 which was great for 4 years. The new printer far surpasses the old in quietness and ink usage. I have printed 8 8"x10" photos, 12 8"x10"prints of paintings, over 300 invitations to my latest art exhibit, plus just every day stuff such as letters, calendars, etc. I have bought a new set of inks but haven't replaced the ones that came with the 1400. Several of them are quite low but I do believe I am using less ink.
great color November 17, 2008 Fred Smith (South Carolina) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Epson Stylus Photo Printer 1400 was a breeze to set up. The colors are deep and clear. On b&w archive scanned photos, the richness was outstanding. Works great with Photoshop Elements. Great value for being able to print 11x17 borderless prints.
Epson - So far, so good. December 4, 2008 Greg Reyes (Fair Oaks, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 Printer directly from the Epson online store. [...]
No sample paper comes packaged with the printer so I immeadiately went to the store to get a healthy supply of Epson papers. I picked up various sizes and weights as well as printable blank DVD's. I made sure I also picked up the large 13x19 sheets so I could see my images in all their glory!
The first thing that struck me was the shear size of this printer. It's large. Unpacking it was a breeze since the inner bag that is wrapped around the printer has handles on it for easy printer extraction. There are two vacuum packed bags in the carton and each contain three ink cartridges. Six cartridges are needed for this printer. Expect to pay upwards [..] to replace all six of them! There is also a quick setup guide (poster style), a users manual and a print tray for CD/DVD printing. Very quick setup using the enclosed CD with drivers. I installed the Vista drivers. No USB cable is suppplied.
The first print you make will be the test print during setup. It's fast. The documentation says that you will use more ink on your first ink cartridges than on cartridges that follow due to "priming" of the printer. My fist "real" print was printed from Photoshop CS4 onto 5x7 glossy paper. It spit out the print in just seconds. I saw banding on the print and tried another. I realized I had the printer set for TEXT instead of PHOTO. The next print was stunning and although took longer to print - it was still lightning speed compared to my HP photo printer.
Real impressive was the printing onto the printable DVD. I bought the blank DVD's that allow printing on the hub. You'll have to change the dimensions of the printing area boundries in the setup screen. Printing onto the blank DVD was fast and easy using the supplied Epson CD/DVD Printing Program. It was easy to place the removable tray into the printer for DVD printing. The tray also has an insert so you can print on the smaller format of discs. I also tried printing directly from my camera using the PictBridge port. Work perfectly. It's a little slower than using your PC and I could only get it to print 4x6. I'll have to spend more time with it to see if I can change that.
Epson - so far, so good. I think I made a wise purchase.
